Self-evaluating 2024 Safeguarding Practice

Each year the SCSSA is charged with managing the formal self-evaluation exercise that is designed to ensure that a consistent approach to self-evaluation is being used in all Church jurisdictions.  This year’s self-evaluation process has been streamlined to focus mostly on the statistical data relating to Standards 1–5 of In God’s Image (IGI). This approach was agreed with the Bishops’ Conference of Scotland to allow SCSSA, dioceses, religious congregations, and Catholic organisations to engage in a consultation process being facilitated by the Kinharvie Institute in the next few weeks.

Unlike previous years, this year’s process will not require any significant qualitative review of safeguarding practices by participants or any publication or refreshment of action plans. The questionnaire has been abbreviated and is designed to reduce any administrative burden but will still ensure effective monitoring of the key statistical data.

The timeline for this exercise can be seen below.  Online forms and guidance notes can be accessed here.
